All the Fun of the Circus with Gabby Young & Other Animals

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

Gabby1

When we were asked to be part of Gabby Young & Other Animals’ Koko gig, we were absolutely thrilled! Big fans already of not just the amazing music but Gabby’s fantastic mermaid-esque style, we were super excited to see the band live for the first time. We popped up our stall and were warmed up by Marcella & The Forget Me Nots. Marcella “sings of monstrous movie starlets & manifestations of the devil in the Italian countryside accompanied by a six-piece rock’n’roll orchestra”, giving an energetic performance.

Gabby5

We had a chance to sample the face painting skills of Karen of Raingold Faces. She whipped up some mermaid make up inspired by Felicity’s Paperself eyelashes. We wish we could have Karen at Now, Voyager HQ everyday-she’s fantastic!

Gabby2

Gabby Young & Other Animals graced the stage. They were completely captivating-twisting & mixing up album songs and treating us with new tunes, accompanied by circus acts, 1920s flapper style dancers & a choir…You would think that this might overshadow the band but to the contrary, they complimented the music perfectly. We were enthralled and loved entering Gabby’s world, dancing along & enjoying the sing along to one of our fav songs ‘Whose House’.

Gabby3

Gabby had two outfit changes-fabulous dresses by Darkest Star & Inbar Spector. Her fabulous, sparkly make-up by artist Jennifer Nash. You can check The outfits & make-up out in the videos below!

After the show we were thrilled to finally meet Gabby-exactly as lovely as she seems! We snapped a pic with Felicity, Gabby & her stylist Katie, author of blog London Plinth, which is always a great read. We will look forward to her next London gig. Gabby Young & Other Animals are the type of band that you could see over & over, never having enough eyes to take it all in!

A Tale to Tell…We Love The Mummers

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

Allow us to share the moment we fell in love with The Mummers with you…catching them on Jools Holland, we fell down the rabbit hole to ‘March of the Dawn’  and never looked back… “I wake up, before the dawn /Grab my coat, take a walk whilst telling myself / To open up a brand new page / Underline the title of this chapter of mine / And it’s a brand new day, a beautiful night, the rest of my life…”

The Mummers stand for endurance, ever striving for the ultimate fairytale ending no matter what tragic or mundane events unfold. They certainly do have a tale to tell, if you are inclined to take the time to listen.

TheMummersBlog

Raissa fronts The Mummers-a style icon in her own right, wearing whatever she feels like-sod fashion…typically with Converse on her feet. At the KCLSU this week, she wore a retro 80s lace Barbie wedding fantasy dress, teamed with a 20s flapper style feather head piece and of course, her well-loved Converse.

Vintage at Goodwood

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

VintageAtGoodwood4

When we arrived at Vintage at Goodwood to set up the stall, it was like entering our very own fairy tale. The toy town look of the event was super cute, the mini high street was adorable down to the littlest detail-the Goodwood shop had awning made to look like a swing dress and the Cath Kitson store with its window boxes….ooh-ohhh-dorable!

VintageAtGoodwood1

For excited festival-goers, the entrance was a mock-curtain archway with a red carpet, which gradually came into view as you walked down the fairy-lit woodland path. We chuckled when we saw the Butlins skyline tent, as we enjoyed a happy, cheesy ole family holiday at Butlins, Minehead over the summer.

VintageAtGoodwood7

Jess became slightly obsessed with the Demon Drome Wall of Death, where a bike is driven around a vertical wall while the rider also performs stunts, sometimes riding with no hands! They drive so close to where you stand, it’s unreal. If you haven’t already seen this, you need to! They also have a really cool female daredevil Sam “The Dutchess” Munn. We “oooh”-ed and “arhh”-ed and loved every second of it! Plus, it was a very affordable £5 per ticket.

VintageAtGoodwood6

We had our fun photo-booth experience at The Mighty Booth, where you can take in a bunch of crazy hats and attempt to get as many on in your 4 pics! We had some laughs in that booth! Fliss got to sneak off to see the Noisettes for the second time this year and the acoustics of the venue made for a super special performance!

VintageAtGoodwood3

While we didn’t get to enjoy everything that looked amazing, we’ll tell you about all the things we wished we’d done…tea & cake at Fortnum and Mason, enjoyed Lush’s beach (but Jess did get a massage!), watched Jessie and the Orbits and rode the carnival.

VintageAtGoodwood2

Judy, Sam, Emma, Sarah & the team of Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair, who amazingly curated the entire vintage marketplace, all looked beautiful in their yellow Judy dresses, as well as in their vintage finest! They set a glamorous example for us all! Judy tipped us off about the amazing make overs they were doing at the Beauty Box with very talented freelance make-up and hair stylists, so we managed to get an appointment before they filled up completely.

VintageAtGoodwood5

We were located on the Yellow Brick Road, alongside loads of amazing traders such as Anna’s vintage stall and Tatty Devine. Before we began trading on the Friday, Wayne Hemmingway himself came to each stall grouping and thanked us for taking part in the first Vintage at Goodwood. Fliss did screech in excitement, but managed to hold it in until he was in the next stall section!

VintageAtGoodwood10

Over on Penny Lanes, we found many friendly faces-the lovely Hazel of Rag & Bow, Rosa with her family supporting Rosilee Clothing & Hats, fellow UEL Alumni Katie Rose of House of Lalka…We managed to sneak a little shopping in…Jess got a Demon Drome tee & some bandanas for her new rockabilly look, Fliss bagged herself cocktail umbrella matching broach & earrings from Tatty Devine, a Vintage at Goodwood souvenir tee and a very pretty stripe & rose print dress from Rag & Bow. We also ran into the Seaside Sisters in their bunting making workshop.

VintageAtGoodwood8

We were joined by Vintage Victory’s Katy and Gerardo and together, we ran competitions for those who were kind enough to join our shared mailing list. If you haven’t joined yet, you can do so by typing your e-mail address in the carnival ticket in the top right corner of our website, where it says ‘Join us’ so that we can let you know about all the fabulous events we will be at!

VintageAtGoodwood9

Vintage at Goodwood was the most fabulous event we have had the pleasure of being part of so far, and we are already excited for next year’s event! If you didn’t go this year, don’t miss out next year. In the meantime, keep an eye on our blog category Event Dates for Your Diary to see when we will next be popping up in a town near you!

Big Box of Love

Vibebar copy

The first half of July brought us back to Hitchin for Jenny’s Hertfordshire Vintage & Accessories Fair, we popped up at Vibe Bar, Brick Lane and we loved our first Lovebox!

At Vibe Bar, we were joined by the very talented Miss Jacqueline White with her embroidered ‘Naughty Tees’, inspired by the brutal dating game of the modern single lady. We also met the lovely Miwary, a seamstress who can turn anything she finds into a quirky creation.

Hitchin copy

Back in Hitchin on the second week of July, we were parked next to the lovely Hazel of Rag & Bow vintage. We couldn’t resist a bargain from her £10 rail. Felicity bagged herself the perfect Holly Hobbie style circle skirt. We also loved the selection from Hitchin’s local vintage store Jolly Brown, with their adorable 50s diner style tops for £12. We also picked up some adorable tattoo-inspired cards from Mildew for our lil shop.

Lovebox copy

The middle of July found us at Now, Voyager’s very first festival-Lovebox with the fabulous Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair. We were received with a whole lot of love-it seemed that everyone wanted something for their hair! We were joined by the lovely Stacey & Gemma Solomon, a massive thank you to them for sending lots of people over to meet us for hair candy!

Lovebox2 copy

We did manage to sneak off to see some music-Jess was up front for Dizzee and Fliss was in her element jumping around for Noisettes and Paloma Faith. She even had the pleasure of meeting Noisette front lady Shoniwa.

We had our faces painted, enjoyed the sunshine and ate a whole lot of ice cream. With the ice cream van next to our marquee, what were we girls supposed to do?

Lovebox3 copy

When it was time to pack up and head off home, we faced protesting customers still wanting to do some last minute shopping-bizarre but certainly made our day!

Keep an eye on our blog category Event Dates for Your Diary to see when we will next be popping up in a town near you!

Whole lotta love,

Felicity & Jess
